What we are aiming at
We are working towards WCAG 2.1 Level AA — the standard the US Department of
Justice has adopted for web accessibility. We are not claiming full conformance today.
Saying so plainly seems better than a badge that overstates it.
What is in place now
- Keyboard access. A skip link at the top of every page jumps past the
navigation, and anything you can focus shows a clear gold outline so you can
always see where you are.
- Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the site honours
it. Our games are animated, and for some children animation causes real
discomfort rather than mild annoyance.
- Touch targets sized for children. Buttons and controls in every game are
sized for smaller, less precise fingers, and checked on phones and tablets.
- Text that can be read aloud. Words, sentences and instructions across the
tests and the Language Lab can be spoken, for children who read slowly or not yet.
- The site works at phone size. Every page and all twenty games are checked
at a narrow screen width, not just on a desktop.
What we know is not right yet
Listing these is not an excuse for them. It is so you know we know.
- Captions on our videos. We have 75 films and they are not yet captioned.
This is the biggest gap and it affects deaf and hard-of-hearing families directly.
- Screen-reader labelling in the games. The live classroom is labelled well;
several games are not yet labelled to the same standard.
- A full colour-contrast review. Not yet done across every page and game.

Say which page you were on and what happened. If something is blocking your child from
a lesson, say so and we will find another way to get them the lesson while we fix it.
